In our last meeting with Lane’s oncologist. She told us we are on the downhill of his treatments. She told us he had one more chemo treatment through his port which we could do at Star Valley Health. Which is a little bitter sweet because they have been fantastic for our family. Now we only need to go to Primary children’s hospital once every 12 weeks. For chemo through his port and a lumbar puncture with chemo. The rest of the time we will be doing oral chemo pills and occasionally oral steroid pills. During this treatment his immune systems should finally stay high enough that he can be in crowded public places. Watch out primary class!

Saturday I was in the Star Valley Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The peace and beauty there is stunning. As I sat and learned more of how much Jesus Christ has done for me I was struck more deeply about how much He has been there for us as a family. My wife and I have made covenants inside these temples that I know have made a world of difference during this time. I won’t pretend that I wasn’t feeling a mix of emotions, but the overarching one was gratitude. Throughout this experience we have felt peace and strength that hasn’t come from our situation. Although it has been really hard it could be so much worse. We are out of the zone where we are worried about receiving a bone marrow transplant and have often wondered why we have been so “lucky”. It all made sense in a flood while I was in the temple. I don’t always cry pretty and this was definitely one of those times. The words of a hymn came to my mind, “what debt of gratitude is mine”

Hymn 187

Oh, love effulgent, love divine! What debt of gratitude is mine, That in his off’ring I have part And hold a place within his heart.

God Loved Us, So He Sent His Son
