If you think this is going to be a happy, jolly story-–you’re wrong.

On December second, my teacher suddenly said, “Abby, your grandma is at the office to check you out of school right now.’’ “Okay,” I said. So I grabbed my stuff and went out the door.

When I finally got to the office my grandma was there. On the way to the car my grandma said in a sad voice, “Abby when your little brother Lane woke up from his nap, he was running a fever of 105 degrees.” So, I guess my mom rushed to the doctor as fast as she could  go to get help for Lane.

Luckily my dad works at the hospital. When my mom got to the hospital she ran him to the doctor’s office, and my dad was already there. Then they talked to the doctors.

This is what the doctors said. “Get him to the emergency room now! He might have leukemia.”

So my mom and dad ran him to the emergency room. By now me, Mercedes, and my grandma were in the parking lot by the emergency room. My grandma texted my mom. I was so full of feelings. I felt sad and painful, and most of all, I was worried.

When my mom finally came out of the door, she said, “Your 2-year-old brother Lane has to go in an ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah because he might have leukemia, a type of cancer. So me and Dad have to go with him to Utah, but you guys have to stay here with Grandma. Grandpa will drive me down to Utah since there is not a lot of room in the ambulance.” Mom wasn’t going in the ambulance, since she was pregnant.

“But it’s dad’s birthday!” I exclaimed.

“I know it’s your dad’s birthday, but if you want to have your brother Lane get the help he needs, we have to go. Would you guys like to see your dad and Lane for maybe for the last time in a while?”

So we went to the emergency room that my brother was in. We saw our parents and our brother get into the vehicles and go away. We drove down with grandma a couple days later to visit, but it was 20 days before we were all together again. Days passed and no happiness for all those days.

But now a year has passed and he’s doing a lot better and has been doing treatments down in Utah. He even has treatments at the hospital in Star Valley too. He is feeling a lot better, and I am finally happy. He’s feeling amazing and running around the house like a normal 4 year old.
